About the Artist

As a young child I was fortunate enough to just catch and remember the very end of British Rail steam.  Living close to Pontop crossing on the Newcastle to Sunderland line, Tyne Dock, Tyne Dock shed and Green lane junction were all familiar to me.  Peering over the road bridge at Green lane was my favourite spot, as the Q6s and 9Fs toiled their way to Consett.

A little later, the last days of  N.C.B. steam at locations such as Backworth Colliery in Northumberland, developed in me a deep appreciation of steam and art.

My first steps into oil painting was at the tender age of nine years old.  My father was a fine amateur artist of seascapes and sailing ships and he helped me understand the rudiments of form and colour.  I soon found myself as the youngest member of the South Shields Arts club, exhibiting and selling original paintings at many exhibitions.

After a number of years operating anything that was live steam, a career in the music business as a professional pianist was embarked upon which lasted 25 years or so.  Now at the age of 49, I am returning to the career that is most dear to me, as a professional railway artist specialising in steam locomotives.

My spare time is spent operating our garden railway, live steam of course!  See our parent company website for more details www.locoworks.co.uk
